Grandma's Heavenly Onions

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 4 large sweet onions, sliced
  • 1/2 pound swiss cheese, shredded
  • 10 slices italian bread
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 3 teaspoons soy sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste

    Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 50 mins Ready Time: 12 hrs 50 mins

  • in a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter and saute onions until translucent. transfer onions to a 9x12 inch casserole dish and sprinkle cheese over onions. spread butter on both sides of the bread, then lay the bread over the cheese.
  • in a medium bowl combine milk, soup, soy sauce, salt and pepper. mix well and pour over bread. cover and refrigerate over night.
  • preheat oven to 350 degrees f (175 degrees c).
  • bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes.
