My Mother's Clam Chowder

Ingredients
- 1 cup diced onion
- 2 cups diced potatoes
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 pint milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 cup celery (chopped)
- 2 (6 ounce) cans clams
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 pint half-and-half
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
Recipe
- 1 combine cut vegetables in a large stew pot.
- 2 drain juice off canned clams and pour juice over veggies.
- 3 add enough water to cover vegetables.
- 4 simmer over medium heat until tender.
- 5 melt butter in a sauce pan.
- 6 add flour and blend until smooth.
- 7 when vegetables are tender add the flour mixture and all other ingredients to the vegetables.
- 8 make sure flour mixture is mixed in well (it acts as a thickening agent).
- 9 simmer all ingredients for 30 minutes.
- 10 add salt and pepper to taste.
