My Mother's Clam Chowder

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 cups diced potatoes
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 pint milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 cup celery (chopped)
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans clams
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 pint half-and-half
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Recipe

  • 1 combine cut vegetables in a large stew pot.
  • 2 drain juice off canned clams and pour juice over veggies.
  • 3 add enough water to cover vegetables.
  • 4 simmer over medium heat until tender.
  • 5 melt butter in a sauce pan.
  • 6 add flour and blend until smooth.
  • 7 when vegetables are tender add the flour mixture and all other ingredients to the vegetables.
  • 8 make sure flour mixture is mixed in well (it acts as a thickening agent).
  • 9 simmer all ingredients for 30 minutes.
  • 10 add salt and pepper to taste.
